A Milwaukee police officer was wounded when a foot chase of two armed suspects erupted in gunfire last month.
The incident happened just after 6:45 p.m. June 21 after officers were flagged down while on patrol, WTMJ-TV reports. An individual reported seeing two men who had flashed guns, but when police located the suspects, they fled on foot.
An officer confronted one of the suspects in an alley, and the 39-year-old man refused to drop his gun and surrender. An exchange of gunfire erupted, and the officer and suspect were both struck.
The 30-year-old officer, who had over seven years of law enforcement service, was rushed to the hospital and is now recovering at home. The suspect also was taken to the hospital with a wounded knee.
Police arrested the second suspect—a 19-year-old man—without incident. Officers also recovered two ghost guns.
The 39-year-old suspect faces multiple charges, including attempted first-degree homicide and other counts. The 19-year-old was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, endangering safety and obstructing an officer.
The shooting is under investigations
